Michelle Obama’s speech was full of emotion, that left listeners glued. People all over the world have continued to watch both speeches over and over, and why? The Michelle and Barack Obama give wonderful speeches. Are there Nigerians like that? Well, we have had some speeches by Nigerians that are arguably better than Obama’s. Unbelievable right? Well look at the list below: 1. First Prime Minister Alhaji Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa on October 1 1960 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter File Photo of Tafawa Balewa This speech given on the 1st of October, 1960 by Nigeria’s first Prime Minister, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa will go down in Nigerian history as one of the best speeches ever. On that fateful Saturday morning the place now called the Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos was filled to the brim as the Prime Minister stepped up to the podium and gave one of the greatest speeches ever. 2. Nigerian President Nnamdi Azikiwe responded with another speech that goes down in history as truly great. The declaration which led to the Biafran civil war will not be forgotten in Nigeria’s history. It began with following words: “Fellow countrymen and women, you, the people of Eastern Nigeria: Conscious of the supreme authority of Almighty God over all mankind, of your duty to yourselves and prosperity; Aware that you can no longer be protected in your lives and in your property by any Government based outside eastern Nigeria.” 4. His famous words to a nation that just went through a most difficult period, were: “The so-called “Rising Sun of Biafra” is set for ever. It will be a great disservice for anyone to continue to use the word Biafra to refer to any part of the East Central State of Nigeria. The tragic chapter of violence is just ended. His final words were: “Fellow Nigerians, finally, we have dutifully intervened to save this nation from imminent collapse. We therefore expect all Nigerians, including those who participated directly or indirectly in bringing the nation to this present predicament, to cooperate with us. This generation of Nigerians, and indeed future generations, have no country other than Nigeria. We shall remain here and salvage it together. May God bless us all.
